You don’t have to listen very closely at church to hear “God loves you.” We hear it over and over and although it’s the basis for creation and humanity, do we really believe it? Do we believe that before the world was even created, God’s thoughts for each and every one of us outnumbered the stars in the sky? Not because of what we could potentially produce, or create, just because we are His and we are good.
I pondered those questions many times throughout the last eighteen months or so as I wrote songs for this next album called Your Love. From the beginning, I wanted these songs to maintain the purpose and beauty of not just my story, but everyone’s story, His love for us, and the simple, yet outrageous truth in His goodness.
Throughout this last season of my life, I often felt alone, confused and powerless. I spiritually battled staying obedient to God as I physically battled chronic pain, fatigue and sickness. I desired so deeply to connect with God. And writing something that naturally flowed through my finger tips was a huge struggle.
As I questioned my gifts, desires and the purpose behind this project, God uniquely positioned my heart to hear Him in a ways that I didn’t realize could be possible. He never stopped pursuing me and it was through the questioning and ultimate surrender that I learned of God’s delight and love for me in a new way.
These are songs for a new beginning. These are songs for healing. These are songs for a new season… of obedient receptiveness to God and His undying love for us.
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
